You decide to purchase a new reptile to add to your collection. You bring him home and place him in your new bearded dragon enclosure, right next to the boa cage. Within a week all of your pets seem listless and ill. Your once thriving colony seems to be fighting for its very existence.

Set Aside a Spare Bearded Dragon Enclosure to Quarantine your New Reptiles

The above scenario illustrates the importance of quarantining your new reptiles before placing them in a bearded dragon enclosure in the same room as your other pets. To be on the safe side, each new reptile should be kept away from your other pets for at least 6 weeks. Set up a bearded dragon terrarium in a spare room or in the basement. Be sure this bearded dragon enclosure or boa cage is warm and well-suited for your pet. Wash your hands before handling your other reptiles. This will prevent contamination between bearded dragon enclosures or boa cages. Always have a spare bearded dragon enclosure or bearded dragon terrarium on hand. This will enable you to immediately separate a reptile that appears sick. Plus, you will be able to easily quarantine any new reptiles you purchase.
